“It is defined by the rejection of effort and merit, constant work, savings, and all forms of personal and community responsibility. We flee from pain, renunciation, and inner conflict. Anyone we don’t like is called ‘toxic’ (even if it’s our parents!) and we turn our backs on them. Ultimately, we flee from growing up.”
